extracting files


Hi,

How do i extract from a .Z type file..

This is typical UNIX compressed file. To extract you have to use zcat or uncompress utilities.

I normally just use tar -zxvf filename. What would the command be now

uncompress -c
or
zcat
if you've installed them

or you can try

tar Zxvf filename

the capital Z tells it to filter thourgh compress, if you have it installed that is.

Also it might be helpfull to do a:

man tar

to get a list of all the commands that tar accepts, and what they do.
