EXT3-fs: unable to read superblock

I've got the same error message from Redhat 7.3 and Redhat 8.0 too. I was able to run Redhat 7.1 and 7.2 with this machine. I really don't have a clue about this problem.

My system is :
IBM Thinkpad R30 Celeron 900 MHz

When i use "linux rescue", i can get access to my hard drive data. I changed ext3 tags to ext2 in my /etc/fstab file but it didn't work. I also tried to load the 2.4.18-5 kernel.

The solution I found was to ask for an ext2 filesystem for the / partition during the installation process of RedHat 8.0 (use Disk Druid).
