/etc/fstab "tmpfs /tmp tmpfs defaults 0 0" ramfs?! HOW?

How does this siply line adding make the ramfs and put tmpfs into RAM?
I have 16 GB or RAM so how many can I append and HOW specify this (again)?
PS: this tweak is SSD-prescribed

according to this Virtual Memory does not guarantee that data would only be written into RAM (to ram and to disk)
