Error after computer restart

Every time I restart my computer and try to access the devices using the API, I get the following error:

1482445262.149631: ERROR: failed to scan directory (errno=2) '/sys/class/pcan'
1482445262.149641: ERROR: failed to open file (errno=2) '/sys/class/pcan/version'

In order to get it to work again, I would have to unplug the USB and replug. Not sure what is going on.
I am on a Linux machine using:

API 4.1.0.2
Peak-linux-driver 8.2

It would help to know what Linux distribution and what "USB device" we are talking about here?
