Empty /var/log/boot.log

just have realized that my /var/log/boot.log is empty, actually when i restarted the system, some service failed to start and now i want to know which service has failed, but boot.log is empty.

I am using CentOS 5.3, and it is a freshly installed system. I have checked that syslog is starting properly, also my /etc/syslog has this entry
Code:
# Save boot messages also to boot.log
local7.* /var/log/boot.log
Also, when googling, found this
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=151238

is this bug exist for RHEL and CentOS 5.x ???? or is there any other problem

That's not normally something in boot.log. In general the contents of it is just dmesg dumped to the file after it's finished booting.

Info are lapidary in the RHEL5.3 Release Notes (Known Issues):
Quote:
Boot-time logging to /var/log/boot.log is not available in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3
The same for the last stable release 5.4. I think it's not worth an headache trying to enable it.
