I hv a external sdlt tape drive on my RH linux server , how can I eject the tape in the tape drive , I tried eject , but it can only eject the tape in the internal drive ? please advise .
It should be /dev/st? where ? is the number like 0 1 2 3 4 ....
You could run the command: dmesg and look for similar wording or just try your luck with
eject /dev/st0

You'll need to know the device name (as others mentioned). Manipulating tapes can also be done generically using "mt". In your case, the command would probably be
Code:
mt -f /dev/nst0 rewoffl
where "rewoffl" stands for "rewind and take offline". You still have to flip the handle on your sdlt drive to eject the cartridge; it won't do that unless it's part of a library.
