drive worthless?

hi linuxers,

after moving all data off a WD Special Edition 120GB HD that wouldn't fsck yesterday i did a mkfs -t ext3 on it. after formatting, fsck was happy again with the filesystem. now that i copied >100GB back onto it, fsck gives thousands of errors including a bad journal which it deleted automatically.

question: anything i can do to this drive to make it cooperate?

It you have questions about the hard drives integrity you want to use the manufacturers utility to check the drive. That should show if there is something physically wrong with the drive (and possiibly allow you to get a new drive, in warranty). If your filesystem is just f***** up you need to save the files you can, fdisk,format, and reinstall.

i searched around for a way to do this in linux. good point, just use the manufacturer's utils.
