Distributed computing

Is it possible to do distributed computing with Linux's current capabilities? (I mean one program distributes what it's doing over several computers connected over a network)

Would that not be what a Linux-based supercomputer is doing?

Obviously, programs need to be programmed in a way to make use of multiple processors. Jobs can be run over multiple machines using things like Condor and PBS. I don't really know anything about either, but basically, yes is the answer to your question. There's also Java RMI..

Sure you can do distributed computing. Look at beowulf clusters, they are an implementation of distributed computing using linux, even using commodity hardware.

You can use the BOINC sw http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/BoincIntro if you mean distributed, not supercomputing/clusters.
