disable ftp user from going outside their home dir


i'm using proftpd and i dont know how to do that.can anyone explain?thanks

Find some information on chroot'ing. This is what you need.

Right here. If you are using proftp make a "DefaultRoot" entry. If you want to restrain them to their home directory, make it look like this:
DefaultRoot ~

Here's my example:
ftp://masterc.no-ip.org/share/proftpd.conf
