Detecting Multi CPUs

Trying to move from Windows to Linux - just because :-). I purchased a box for Linux with a dual processor board and installed RedHat 7.1. Purchased second processor and installed. BIOS seems to recognize second processor as it gives temperture for both. When I boot into Linux it runs well but I don't know how to ascertain if the OS is "seeing" both processors. I think that I might have to recompile the kernal :-/ but don't have a clue as what all is involved.

If you installed redhat before you installed the second CPU then you will have a uniprocessor kernel installed, try either installing redhat again with both processors installed or compiling a new kernel with SMP support.

Thanks, that make sense. Do you know if I will lose everything and have to re-build or if the installation will just update my system. If it will just update I was going to download the RedHat 7.2 version and try out the new file system . . . Jdr

I'd go with RH7.2 update, back up your data first, in case you have to do a fresh install to get the smp working.
