Delay on Frame Repaint in kwin...

OK, this is RedHat 9.0, KDE. I have two systems, one at home, and one at work. The work one has just suddenly developed this very funny habit.

I use click-to focus/raise. When I click on a window, it gets the focus and raises immediately, i.e. any typing goes into the newly selected window.

BUT... there's a delay of about half a second before the frame repaints as the active frame. It's very strange. Anybody know how this is supposed to work. I grabbed the kwin source, and started digging, but nothing comes to light. Help???

J.
