Question Debian net installation hangs in the middle of install

Hi

For a while ago i was installing serveral servers and i used the debian net install for debian 3.1 sarge and debian 4.0 etch to install on these servers. The servers were sun fire and sun netra rack servers.

We were installing serveral servers with the debian net install CD and it worked nice as i/we would expect. I have never had any problems with these net installs before, but, after having installed about 4 servers we got problems with these debian net installs. When we now tried to install debian using the debian net install the installer started up and we got the installation going as normal..but at about 30% of the installation it didnt go any longer. It seemed like it was just hanging. This is a net install and then there is no problem with the CD or anything. We had access to the internet all the time with a good/fast internet connection.

We tried to install with the net install on other servers too and faced the excact same problems. I think we also used a different mirror to install from and still got the same error which was that the installation was hanging on 30%. We let the installer do its job and waited a little, but after about 30 minutes for not showing _any_ progress, we exited the installation. We tried this installation over and over again without a possitive result. In the end we choose more different mirrors and then in the end it just completed.

This is a little weird isnt it, that the installation would just stop up and hang like that on a net install. I dont think there were any problems with the mirror we used. When trying other mirrors it sometimes worked and sometimes didnt. We were using mirrors in our country or neightbour countries, so it shouldnt be any problem. Also, the installation worked fine serveral times on the same mirror until we suddenly got problems.

Anyone who knows why we got these problems? Would be nice to know why it just started to hang. This could probably happen on PXE boots as well..so if this problems happens again..which it probabaly will..it would be nice to know is going on and how to fix it.. maybe its just to use different mirrors all the time until it succeeds? ..But thats a little time consuming..

Sorry for posting twice. linuxquestions.org seems slow now and maybe that caused it.. it didnt seem to respond when posting the reply, so i stopped it and tried to send the thread again.
