CUPS Printing problems in RH 7.3

I'm trying to setup a RH 7.3 box to print to an HP Deskjet 882c connected to a remote windows box. I know the windows box is set up fine because I can print to it from windows on the same computer. I'm using CUPS, and have read the manual. It says to use a device string of smb://workgroup/server/sharename, and to run "ln -s `which smbspool` /usr/lib/cups/backend/smb", both of which I have done. Here is the command I am trying:
lpadmin -p DeskJet -E -v smb://foo/bar/baz -m /usr/share/foo.ppd
Just as described in the manual. I have also tried doing this from the web interface. Both approaches yeild this error:
lpadmin: add-printer failed: client-error-not-possible
and this entry in /var/log/cups/error_log
add_printer: bad device-uri attribute 'smb://foo/bar/baz'!
Samba is installed and works for accessing file shares on the windows server, and everything else seems in working order. I am at a loss.
Can anybody help?
