Crashed and Stuck in FSCK loop

Hi, I'm running FC6 on my desktop, for some unknown reason it crashed a few weeks ago and now every time I reboot it goes through this same thing:

/dev/Volgroup00/LogVol00 contains file system with errors check forced

/dev/Volgroup00/LogVol00 unexpected inconsistency run fsck manually

Then I drop to a shell as root and do:
fsck -A -y
It finds allot of illegal blocks then says cleared
Then on reboot its good to go.

This is the only thing that will let me boot and I have to do this every time I turn off my computer.

How can I fix these errors for good?

Thanks

"fsck -A -y"

This command says to check every file system in /etc/fstab. Make sure that /dev/Volgroup00/LogVol00 is in /etc/fstab. If not then run:

fsck -y /dev/Volgroup00/LogVol00

"This is the only thing that will let me boot and I have to do this every time I turn off my computer."

Are you turning off your computer without going through a normal shutdown?

It's in fstab and I'm shutting it down properly. It's like the file system never gets repaired. When I turn the computer back on it always does the same thing. Is there any thing else I can try.

To start with, you need to boot your system from some kind of Linux CD-ROM. The disks that came with your distribution can probably be made to do it; the Knoppix distribution is a more-general solution.

This will bring you to a situation where the computer is not relying on your hard-disk drive at all. From there, you can now try to fix it.

It rather sounds to me like your hard-drive is on its last legs and probably needs to be replaced at once.

I'd hate to think that the HDD is bad because its brand new (Maxtor IDE 200GB). Should I still use the FSCK command when I boot with knoppix, if so with what switches?

Thanks
