Crappy sound through ALSA
Hello, I am using Gentoo, with the 2.4.26 kernel. I am using the ALSA drivers, as well as the Gnome desktop, with Xorg. My problem is that when I try to play music through XMMS or play a movie in Mplayer, the sound is bad. It skips, and is constantly scratchy, though it peaks when I open another program or move a window around. Under KDE on a past distro with the same (or at least close to in terms of the version) kernel, I could thwart this problem by adjusting the audio buffer. But Gnome doesn't seem to have this option. How can I adjust this manually? I've heard before that this problem has to do with X11 messing with the audio buffer, but I'm not quite sure...
