Question could not mount device?

Everytime I insert a cd into my drive, mount it, unmount it, eject it, and then insert a new cd in and try to mount it, I get this error:

Could not mount device.
The reported error was:
mount: /dev/hdc already mounted or /mnt/cdrom busy

I have to restart KDE everytime this happens before it will let me mount another cd.

I'm running FC3 and this is what my fstab entry for my cdrom looks like:
/dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

I would suggest that you are having some issues with unmounting it. Most of the time, Linux will keep you from ejecting the drive when it is mounted, but it does not always work. Are you sure when you do a umount /dev/hdc on the command line it doesn't give an error saying device is busy?

KDE runs a daemon called famd which monitors filesystems in the background. 99% of the time unmounting drive problems is due to famd accessing the drive such that the drive cannot be mounted (it is busy).

Perhaps famd has a configuration to tell it to never sit on /mnt/cdrom, I'm not particularly sure. But in any case, you can always kill the process (it is fam or famd, it's been a while) and then restart it and you should be able to unmount your cdrom.

Here's hoping the merge the inotify support into the kernel sometime soon so this crud doesn't have to happen anymore.

*crosses fingers*

thanks for the reply, I'll check into moding the configuration file and see if that works.
Thanks again
