Exclamation Could anybody help me back to X window please?

My RH7.2 i386 crashed just now when I ran several mem monsters simaltaniusly. Now I lost my X. Here is the err message in /var/log/XFree86.0.log:

------------------
(II) Keyboard "Keyboard0" handled by legacy driver
(II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "Mouse0" (type: MOUSE)
Could not init font path element unix/:7100, removing from list!

Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'
-------------------

In addition, I got a bunch of errors when shutting down the system. Many daemons failed to shut down properly.

I also tried to start my system like this:
boot: linux single
and checked the file system using fsck. No errors anymore. But when I tried to use RH installation CD to upgrade the system (I was hoping to correct any errors in this way), it reported that some file systems were not unmounted cleanly and refused to upgrade.

I am totally confused. I have final project presentation tomorrow. I really don't have time to reinstall the system and a lot of softwares tonight. For God's sake, could anybody help me? Thank you very much in advance.
