complete and totaly failure

i've got a linux distro called damnsmalllinux, it's based on knoppix which is based on debian. but here's the problem, after the bios detects the harddrive and trys to boot up, all i get is
Code:
L 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A
9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A
 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A
9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A
9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A
9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A
9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A 9A

what is this?! i've never had this problem before. if i boot up with the cd and use it in ramdisk mode, i can mount and explore hda1 just fine (the only partition). what can i do!

Its a lilo error. Not sure what the exact numbers mean. It means something isn't configured correctly. Browse in hda1 to the /etc folder and post your lilo.conf file.

Don't know if it's useful but fwiw, from man lilo:
Errors 99 and 9A usually mean the map
file (-m or map=) is not readable, likely because LILO was not re-run
after some system change, or there is a geometry mis-match between what
LILO used (lilo -v3 to display) and what is actually being used by the
BIOS (one of the lilo diagnostic disks, available in the source distri-
bution, may be needed to diagnose this problem)
