Compiling 2.6.9-rc1-mm4 from source...

Hi,

trying to get 2.6.9-rc1-mm4 to compile

I have grabbed 2.6.8.1 & patch-2.6.9.-rc1.bz2 & 2.6.9-rc1-mm4.bz2

patched kernel fine

edited Makefile to new version....

make etc...

but build breaks at fs/binfmt_elf

I am using my old 2.6.8.1-mm4 config (maybe thats the problem)

Or have i missed something else

I have compiled Kernels before but this is a patch first ...

Any advise or pointers I would be grateful

Dave T.

Duoble check if the patch process really went OK - that is without a single rejection.
If it did, you might have found a bug in the kernel version (in RCs and especially in -mm it wouldn't surprise me at all).

If I knew what I was looking at it would help

I tried to patch 2.6.8.1 with 2.6.9-rc1 only

Build failed at drivers/net/e1000/e1000_main.o

looking for e1000_irq_enable

Thing is Makefile is messed up when patched i get 2.6.8.1-rc1

Maybe I would be better off when stable 2.6.9 comes out

I'm running 2.6.8.1-mm4 at the moment (for reiser4) I'm getting problems shutting down but thats another story

well maybe i need to a bit more

trying to find a good doc on kernel is like looking for a needle in a haystack (unless you know different!)

a lot of them are out date (2.4 & older)

I have been told that rc1 kernels are way unstable (like me )

Once I get the hang of patching then i will do some messing with me configs... hard to do without a kernel
