Look at the manpage to see how you search for packages using zypper.
Maybe the package name contains the version number or something goofy like that.

On my openSUSE 10.3 laptop, zip is supplied by a zip package:
Code:
rpm -qf /usr/bin/zip
zip-2.32-11

You have installed from the OpenSuSE-KDE CD which has a limited set of applications and the only and unique repository set up in your system is the OSS-KDE. You have to add additional repositories (expecially the official OSS and NON-OSS) in order to find the software you're looking for. Follow the instructions here, it's easy.

Just fyi, the request to use zip is a bit unusual. The normal tool is gzip (to compress). BTW, that's separate to the tar tool, unlike puntjuh (post #2) said. Tar packs multiple src files into one tgt file, but it does not compress the tgt unless you specify either
z switch to use gzip
or
j switch to use bzip2 tool

try
man tar
man gzip
man bzip2
