Is there any way through which I can use chm(compiled HTML files in Linux).I don't have windows,so that means
that I won't be able to use the windows help to view those files. Is it possible?

Thanks a bit for the link (I think that I should have done some googling first).Anyway thanks. The first problem I have is that I have configured the winhelpcgi(which is a cgi script, opens windows help files(extension hlp) in any browser with httpd running). It is easy to configure and run.The real problem is that it is no help with CHM files and the first link that you gave contains files with multiple errors(I could have edited and corrected the errors ,but I thought better).Since I got the specification of CHM file I think that it would be cool to write a perl script just to convert CHM to HTML ,have anyone done it!?.If not I think that I could try with some help!!

you could use a software called xCHM to view chm files.

Thanks but I figured that out a long time ago.
Since the problem got solved my idea of writing a script did not materialize.
Maybe we could get together on that if you want.If you want to do so ,email me.
