change color

does anybody know how to change the color in the bash(not in x-windows), i mean change the background and the color of the font.and how can i change this:
to something custome like [youname]$

You need to change the PS1 value of your shell which can include colour escape codes - ie this is mine:
rossy - trigger - Sat Nov 13 19:18:44
~> echo $PS1
\[\033[0;31m\]\u - \h - \d \t\n\w> \[\033[0m\]
