Never use CD labels. Use an accessory that holds CD in a printer and a special CD that you can use an ink jet printer. It gives you a more professional look and the CD will last much longer than CD with labels. Over time CD labels ruins the CD.

Use Gimp and its layer feature.

I've heard that it's even worse for DVD's. The minor imbalance that a stick-on label introduces creates hundreds of times more read-errors than a disk without one. And that's a *bad* thing.

Its the adhesive from the label not the imbalance that ruins the CD.

True, but it's the imbalance that eventually ruins the drive (pulverizes the spindle motor bearings).

Post CD labeler sofware for linux

I am searching for CD/DVD labeling software for Linux Mint because I wood like to move all my applications over to it. I notes several members have discouraged the use of labels for fear of corupting the disc. I have found that if the label is not properly oriented it will cause a problem, so I use a proper jig. I have label 100s of CD & DVDs with on a very few problems, in fact, Labeling a disc actually prevents future problems because it protects the reflective side of the disc.
