CD & DVD-ROM Mounting Errors

I'm using Vector Linux 4.3.

When I type dmesg (the init script) has in it:

Code:
hdc: HL-DT-ST GCE-8400B, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
hdd: TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-M1612, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
Then a few lines (5) down....

Code:
hdc: attatched ide-cdrom driver.
hd: ATAPI 40X CD-ROM CD-R/RW drive, 2048KiB Cache, CHS=7941/240/63, UDMA (100)
Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.12
hdd: attatched ide-cdrom driver.
hdd: ATAPI 48X DVD-ROM drive, 512kB Cache, UDMA(33)
Then way at the bottom:

Code:
cdrom: open failed.
When I try to "mount /dev/cdrom" I get:
mount: No medium found

And there is no /dev/dvd or anything similar in my /etc/fstab.

In slack10 the CD player worked but the DVD player didn't, and now for some reason the CD player also doesn't work now that I switched. Any ideas as to why?

If you do not have a disk in the drive it will not mount and give you that error. Post your /etc/fstab file, maybe there are some hints there.

My /etc/fstab::

Code:
/dev/hda1 / reiserfs defaults 0 1
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 defaults,noauto,rw,user 0 0
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto defaults,noauto,user 0 0
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=666 0 0
usbdevfs /proc/bus/usb usbdevfs defaults,noauto 0 0
/dev/hda2 none swap sw 0 0
That's the entirety of my fstab thats not commented out.

By the way I had a CD in there. It wasn't blank either. It works on WinXP and I also tried with various other CD's and it wouldn't work. Haven't tried with an audio CD yet though.

Something else; when I type eject, my DVD opens. Not the CD.

By the way I tried everything at http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=228014
