We are using Redhat Enterprise WS. I accidentally messed up ld-2.3.2.so (what happened was that the file was moved into some other directory) in /lib and it pretty much screwed up the entire system, including init. So I booted from a floppy, mounted the hard drive and moved the file back into its original location, hoping that it would get the system back on.

Now it seems like I can't even boot into runlevel 1. Here's the message I get:

- INIT: Entering runlevel: 1
- INIT: no more processes left in this runlevel

I booted onto the floppy again and checked rc.d and inittab. They all seem fine.

Runlevel 1 is normally the system shutdown runlevel, so you don't want to boot into that if your computer is to do anything before it shuts down.

On Red Hat, Runlevel s is single-user mode, or 2 is multi-user mode without networking. Runlevel 3 is full multi-user with network, 4 is unused, 5 is 3 + X-Windows logons, and 6 is system reboot.
