Question Cannot receive mails from certain domains/sites

Hi,

I'm just about going to pull the last strand of hair from my head now. But I thought I would give this last desperate random fling of my hands to see if I can grab hold of something...anything to keep me from reaching the bottom of this high and trecherous cliff.

Good people of LQ Land, I need your help desperately. The evil monstrosity BIND 9.2.1 and sendmail 8.11.6 is terrorising my land.... uh waiit let me rephase this question.

HELP x_o !!! I need heeeeeeelp with Bind 9.2.1 and sendmail 8.11.6.
I don't know why I can receive mails from some hosts/domains but not from others.

I am running RedHat Linux 7.3 along with ipchains configured to block all ports except for 53, 25, SSH, HTTPS, and a few other ports like ftp, etc. I don't think ipchains is giving any problems, because even if I disable it, my server still does not receive any mails from the affected servers.

What could be the problem ? Is it a problem with sendmail ?
Do I need to like do a total recompilation of the package to enable something ? Or do I need to reconfigure and add some parameter in to the sendmail.mc file ? What ? Somebody throw me a bone here !!! :-)

I do not have any problems sending emails to these affected sites, but they can't seem to contact my server.

I thought that it could be a bind problem, so I did some changes to my zone files, and when I do a nslookup using some other servers, some of the servers can resolve my domain name, some can't. Is this due to their refresh rate setting in Bind ?

Is anything wrong with my Bind settings ?
Can somebody Puleeezzzzz email or point me to a resource/place where I can get some information as to configuring Bind and sendmail with the latest version <Anywhere of help except www.sendmail.org>. Or better yet, provide me with a sample copy to configure zones, and sendmail.cf.

Thinking over this matter, I do not know if it is a problem with sendmail or bind ? Any thoughts on this matter would help tremendously.

I need to tell you the full story basically. My server hard disk crashed a couple of weeks back and I had to reinstall my server upgrading from RH7.1 to 7.3. Coming to 7.3 I upgraded my server filesets and configured Bind and Sendmail. To this day, I am having problems receiving mails from certain sites.
Has anybody experienced what I am going through before ? What the h*** has Redhat done to their distribution to make it so f***ed up to configure and setup ? or maybe I'm just an idiot who does not know what he is doing.

Cheers,
Fluffybunny <a pink bare skinned bunny with a single strand of hair on his head hopping off towards the cliff overlooking a beautiful sunset>
