Can SAN understand NFS protocol

Hi,

I am very new to storage , so please excuse if this is some kind of a dumb question . All i knew about SAN is it is a block level access and uses Protocol like Iscsi or FC , but recently i came across a cloud architecture where they were using a SAN and an NFS protocol which is a file level protocol , if i am not wrong only NAS understand's NFS Protocol and not SAN . So if a SAN can understand NFS , is there any conversion happening like a Block level to File level.

The SAN exports block level to the server. Once connected, you still need to partition and format the block device. The OS treats is as a raw drive until partitioned and formatted.

I guess it would depend on the san.
