Can i rename folder into single file?

I just dont want to copy over thousands of files slowly, and instead move one file. Can i anyhow rename some folder to be a single file and after transfer somehow make it folder again?

I dont want to waste resources by taring that.

im copying from linux to windows via scp

Compress them before you transfer them either as a single zip file or tarball.

There is no other option other than zipping or taring the directory.
