Unhappy Can I automate the tar, ./configure, make, and make install of about 50 packages?

I decided I wanted to try Gnome for once, so I went to www.gnome.org, and noticed a lack of Binaries. What a shock! So, I went to the source section, and there were about 100 source downloads. So, I downloaded them all. And what does it want me to do? tar xvfz, ./configure, make, and make install ALL THE PACKAGES to the same --prefix. I have a PII233, and that would take me all day to sit there are watch. Can I automate this process?

You could do a bash script to automate it, but if one package chokes then the whole install will stop untill you return and sort out the problem package.

If you'd like just to try GNOME, maybe it'll be better to get it from Slackware ftp, already compiled. GNOME 1.4 is available in slackware-current.
