Can't get into Gnome/X
I'm running rh8.0. I'm using my box as a httpd with a ftpd moving users' homes to /var/www/html so they can ftp directly in and publish pages.
Lately every user that tries to log into the box gets the message
"Your preference files are currently in use. (If you are logged in to this same account from another computer, the other login session is probably useing your prefrences files.) You can choose to continue, but be aware that other lgoin sessions may become temporirly confused. If you are not logged in elsewhere, it should be harmless."
[they are not logged in anywhere else]
So I press continue and get another prompt
"Could not resolve the address "This file stores the addresses of config sources for GConf" in the configuration file "/etc/gconf/2/path": Couldn't resolve address for configuration source: Bad address. 'This file stores the addresses of config sources for GConf.'
My /etc/gconf/2/path file looks like this
xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.mandatory
include "$(HOME)/.gconf.path"
xml:readwrite:$(HOME)/.gconf
xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults
I inserted a line
"include"/var/www/html/.gconf""
in there for a while, then I could not log in under root and have since taken it out, but I still cannot log into X under root.
If I run startx
I get a Fatal server error:
`Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib:Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 key
...
..
Thanks for your help.
