can't run .xsession file

Hello,

I am running Red Hat 8 and I am using enlightenment window manager. I want to do some stuff at X startup, so I think I am supposed to put these commands in the .xsession file in my home directory. I do this but they don't get run. How come my X isn't running the .xsession file when I start X?

thanks,

Do you type startx to run X or do you login from a GUI login screen? If it is the former, then put your options in a file called .xinitrc (or link your .xsession file to .xinitrc).

When I put something in .xinitrc It doesn't execute.
This is what my .xinitrc looks like

exec "enlightenment"
exec "xterm"

but xterm doesn't start

Quote:

when you have an .xinitrc as such, X runs enlightenment in foreground, and only when you execute enlightenment will it attempt to execute xterm.

Try something like this instead:

# my .xinitrc
xterm &
exec enlightement

Cheers.

Are the programs really in quotes in your .xinitrc file? They don't need to be! The xterm line should come before the enlightenment line, and the xterm line should end with an &.
