Red face can't login after create user

Hi

I can't login after I create user with useradd

here is what I did

useradd -g cam -G cam,users,bin,games -p genpass -s /bin/csh -u 1000 genesis

I'm running redhat 8.0. When I login with username = genesis, password = genpass, it keeps saying the message
"Incorrect username or password. Letter must be typed in the correct case. Please make sure the Cap Lock key is not enabled."

Any idea or suggestion? Thanks in advance.

The -p option expects an encrypted password so using "genpass" to log in won't work.

Log in as root and set the correct password for the user using passwd genesis.

Yes, I have done the same way, that you said in the reply.

Will it have another way that I don't need to issue "passwd genesis" after I use useradd command to login for user genesis?

Thanks

You could just not specify the password as a command-line switch, and instead wait to get prompted for it.

do this with root login

Code:
passwd <user>
(it will ask for the password twice for confirmation)
after this try log in

I doubt lapn99 will be trying your suggestion any time soon, since he/she made four posts ten years ago and has not been around since.
