Can't add user group on RedHat 9

Hi! I'm building a web server based on RedHat 9 and I'm installing MySQL 4.0.14 and when I try to add a "mysql" group, I get an error indicating the "/etc/group" file can't be locked:

[root@mama mysql-4.0.14]# /usr/sbin/groupadd mysql
groupadd: unable to lock group file
[root@mama mysql-4.0.14]#

Any idea on what can be going on?

Thanks in advance...

Peace...

Well, I got my group added. I changed to runlevel 1 and was able to user groupadd ok. I'm not sure if I _needed_ to be at runlevel 1 or if some process had the group file "locked".

All is well once again...

Peace...
