Question Building static binaries

Hi!

Is it possible to build static binaries of the software that I compile so
that there are no dependency headaches.

Example:
Is it possible to compile software such as mplayer, fluxbox, etc. so that
it runs on other PC's without worrying about dependencies?

Thanks
