booting linux on a external hard drive


hey sup people im just wondering how do i boot mandrake from a external hard drive using either USB or Firewire.

If it's usb then first you need to check if your BIOS supports booting from the usb device.

Hello,

Not a big difference from an internal disk I would say.
I have not seen any BIOS with support for boot from a firewire disk yet.
Use USB if possible.

Unhappy plz help asap

hey all,

is it possibe to get USB to run a bootable linux distribution. My BIOS does not support booting from the USB drive.

I have Puppy Linux(48.5 mb) on my usb drive. It is a bootable distro complete with a GUI and all. So, I was wondering how to go about booting this. Plz. help me asap.
