Black screen and pointer for first few minutes after login
Hi,
I'm having some strange behavior on my machine with my normal user account (logging in under root or another account seems to work fine). It all started after I left my machine on and it eventually ran the battery down.
Now when I login I get a black screen with a arrow pointer on it for ~2-3 minutes post login and then eventually my gnome desktop appears.
Any thoughts or suggestions? I have done some searching but most problems that are similar are either xorg.conf or ESD related and don't seem to apply here.
Thanks in advance.
Mike
Additional random information:
1) I can switch to the command line environment while I'm at the black screen
2) My .xsessions-errors file has stuff like
localuser:<username> being added to access control list
No profile for user '<username>' found
SESSION_MANAGER=local/localhost.localdomain:/tmp/.ICE-unix/2646
Window manager warning: Failed to read saved session file /home/<username>/.metacity/sessions/1204856262-2805-23957321.ms: Failed to open file '/home/<username>/.metacity/sessions/1204856262-2805-23957321.ms': No such file or directory

It's been a while since I've used Gnome, but from the errors is seems as if you are trying to read a saved session and aren't able to. Try saving your session again once everything comes up.
