bindir

Is there a way that I can install a program in a specific directory in RH9 ?
and what is bindir for?

suppose I give the make command in a folder like this

Code:
make bindir=/root/new/xxx install
so will the whole program will be installed in /root/new/xxx ?

bindir will be the designated directory for the binaries, e.g. /usr/bin.

as for a completely different location, you should try passing --prefix=/usr/bob/hilda/ to ./configure, not make.
