BadName (named color or font does not exist)

After installing libx11-6 and all its dependencies, this error is popping up all over the place and it's preventing me from opening a great many applications (even emacs gives up the ghost).

Here's the most common errors:
The program '' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
Gdk-ERROR **: BadName (named color or font does not exist)
(Details: serial 158 error_code 15 request_code 45 minor_code 0)

One application fails to launch and displays the following (reconfigure locales?):
The font "-*-fixed-medium-r-normal-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-*-*,*" does not support all the required character sets for the current locale "LC_CTYPE=en_US;LC_NUMERIC=C;LC_TIME=en_US;LC_COLLATE=en_US;LC_MONETARY=en_US;LC_MESSAGES=en_US;LC_P APER=en_US;LC_NAME=en_US;LC_ADDRESS=en_US;LC_TELEPHONE=en_US;LC_MEASUREMENT=en_US;LC_IDENTIFICATION= en_US"
(Missing character set "ISO8859-1")
(Missing character set "ISO8859-1")

I've searched around Google for awhile and have found nothing.

I don't know how to fix this, or what's even wrong.
Thanks

Also, when I do:
xset fp= /etc/X11/fonts
...
xset: bad font path element (#96), possible causes are:
Directory does not exist or has wrong permissions
Directory missing fonts.dir
Incorrect font server address or syntax

This has been resolved. When I was installing all those packages, as I mentioned in my first post, xorg.conf was altered and a copy of it was made. I simply replaced the old file.
