Backup Fedora over network with Norton Ghost

I have norton ghost 9.0 running on a network. I created a samba share for the root directory ('/').

If I run Ghost on the shared drive and then I try to restore it later, will that work? Anyone know?

Thanks!

I doubt that Norton Ghost will know about the types of file systems that are used in Linux.

Ghosting a mounted partition is very questionable in any OS environment.

You are better off booting a different partition or a live Linux CD and using dd or partimage to make a backup of a Linux partition. Partimage can use the network and can even use ssh connections to a remote server. By that I mean that the backup file would be on the remote server, not that you can run partimage on one machine to backup a different machine. Partimage has to be run on the machine where the partition exists.
