Post Automount. How ?

Hi,

I've installed Mandriva 2005.
When I insert my usb-pen, Mandriva doesn't mount it.
When I had Mandria 10.1, pen automatically mount.
So I try to modify fstab; I insert this line :

/dev/sda /mnt/mypen

but when I try to browse it, I have an error: only root can see it.
And when I reboo my linux, I see that failed to mount mypen, beause it isn't present.

How can I tell at Mandriva that it must mount (auto) only when I insert it in my pc ?

Thanks for your support.

Try this in your /etc/fstab:
/dev/sda1 /mnt/mypen vfat noatime,nodev,noexec,nosuid,user,umask=077,fmask=177,dmask=077 0 0

Then try to mount:

mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/mypen

Hello!

Take a look at the line for your CD-rom in /etc/fstab. Then copy it and substitute device and mount point (and maybe filesystem type) with the info for the usb-pen.

Good luck!

I am not sure this is the right answer to your question. But you could try autofs to mount your directories automatically.

It might be of some help.

Thank you to all.

Now I can read my usb-pen.

Only one question: I mount my usb-pen :

vfat umask=0,user,noauto,ro,exec,users 0 0

now, is there a possibility that

on my usb, too ?

If the system is writing to your pendrive when you take it out then at the very least it will leave the file it was writing to corrupted, unsure about the pendrive filesystem though. I always unmount my pendrive before removing it.
