asmlinkage

Can anyone give me an explanation of 'asmlinkage'.

I am inspecting the time.c code in the /kernal folder and I am unclear as to what happens when 'asmlinkage' executes. Here is an example of a line from time.c.

asmlinkage long sys_stime(int *tptr)
{
.
.
.
}

Thanks
