Apt Show Installed Packages

When I `apt-cache search <bla>', I sometimes ask myself whether a particular listed package is already installed or not. It would be cool if installed packages were marked, like it is the case in Synaptic. Is this possible on the command-line?

dpkg -l | grep package_name or apt-cache policy package_name will give you that information don't believe it possible with the search though.
