Apache

Hello all. I have installed apache and then i pulled all of my documents from a cd-backup and dropped them in the httpdoc folder in /etc/usr/local folder. Even though i deleted the default index.html file that apache installs i am still getting that page and not the one I want. http://4thbb.dyndns.org why isnt apache loading the right html file. did i put the files in the wrong spot?? (use to be apache in windows2k)

Apache loads a .conf file usually located in /etc/apache/httpd.conf that tells it what the document root directory is. You can change this file to point to where-ever you want. Open up this file with the editor of your choice and search for: DocumentRoot

Change that to the dir you placed everything and then kill and restart apache.

what distro of linux are you using? I use redhat 7.2 and apache (installed during os install) puts doc root in /var/www/html by default.

Ah you're right... I shouldn't have put usually. That is the directory apache would build from a 'make install' back in the late 1.3.teenish series. I think its still the same. RH, Mandy, and all the other kids are sticking stuff in /var and /opt a lot to keep them more secure.

Oh... duh, answer to simple question: Slackware. I think Debian uses that too.

Sorry, long answer, short question.

Cheers,
