I tried using salixos' kernellive, but he set aufs in kernel, not as module, so linuxlivescripts wont work and he wont tell how he made his salixos live
Who won't tell what? As I remember you have already been pointed to all the scripts that were used to create the Salix live CD. It's no secret, everything is available in the Salix svn repository.
So, as you can see there he leaves the thread hanging and even after I fixed the scripts and all
it doesn't make a livecd kernel

So, I challenge you Gapan to folow his directions and make a livecd kernel?
it wont work unless you know how to fix LinuxLive to boot a kernel with aufs,etc built in
which, as I said, JRD wont tell...
I have found the solution to making livecd's using LinuxLiveScripts and slackware 12.2/13/current!
Thanks to fathom and quax from slax forums I have been able to learn exactly how its done
whether using aufs/squashfs as a module or built into kernel.
Heres quax's 2.6.33.3 patched aufs,etc kernel source!! http://www.slax.org/forum.php?action...parentID=61323
I now have made another slack version; current as of last night, with kernel 2.6.33.3-qx1-nFlux built from quax's source and it has aufs/squashfs as built-in to kernel.
I will be giving a full how-to on making a slack livecd persisent,etc
Also, I have upgraded and improved the ubuntu 10.04/debian squeeze versions
to last night also.
All 3 are being uploaded now and should be ready for testing tonight!

nflux slack version (rc2)
added Gnumeric, changed flux menu, added kernel 2.6.33.3-qx1-nFlux from source
overall improvements in useability areas
nflux debian version (rc3)
added Gnumeric, upgraded everything, changed menu a bit,
nflux ubuntu version (rc3)
added Gnumeric, new 2.6.32-22 kernel, changed flux menu some.
Now I have to write up a bunch of stuff for nFlux and the slack how-to

I included a /boot/grub folder in the slack version
and with menu.lst,etc so if you use grub (1) with ext2/3 usb or hdd
it will be already setup. the slack version has lilo and grub2 installed
I'm trying nflux debian via usb stick on an Acer Aspire One ZG5 netbook with the following specs:
Intel Atom CPU 1.6ghz
1gb ram
160gig hdd
So far, telnet doesn't work: "bash: telnet: command not found" is the msg I get when I try to telnet anywhere. It does the same thing on the desktop machine, an IBM P4/2.7ghz-2gb ram.
I haven't found telnet available regardless of the terminal app I use.
I haven't figured out how to download other packages like fldigi, xastir, or stellarium. I see a boatload of apps already installed, but haven't figured out how to get others I might want. Perhaps a different repository? Or would that work with this?
Will we be able to add/delete users, change passwords, etc, on this?
Those are the only complaints or oddities I've noticed so far. Nothing life-altering, to be sure. I can live without the other packages, but not telnet. It is, as they say, a "must-have" for me. I use this as regularly as my email and browser. In fact, it's the only way I know to access my shell account. I've noticed that telnet works in the slackware version, at least on my desktop machine. I can't get X to fly on the netbook with it, though, so I won't know if anything works there. I don't believe the slackware version is capable of handling the 1024x600 display resolution at this time. Perhaps some editing of the proper config file will enable this?
All the above aside, a worthy effort. I could boot and show off this debian version to others that are techno-challenged and they would be impressed with the small footprint of this distro, as well as the speed of it on midrange machines. I am. I really enjoy testing and fiddling with these new distros. Never know what you'll fall in love with, and exposing my friends to them may just convince them to abandon that high-priced crapware they've grown so disgruntled with!
um, the telinit command is for the slack version...

if using the debian/buntu version you can use Synaptic pkg manager to install apps
or gdebi or apt-get thru terminal
If using slack version you have slackpkg, sbopkg, and Gslapt with slack current repo
and also have src2pkg too

so, telnet should be available in debian/buntu repos
and I believe sbopkg in menu has telnet available
As for the 1024x600 issue; I am going to have to make new slack cd maybe cause I have it set to runlevel 4 vs 3
did you try choosing the "no" option to configure X?

user "guest" is premade in debian/buntu versions
no users for slack version, just root
you can make a user from slack/debian/buntu menu
as I have setup /etc/skel (which populates new user home directories)
in all of them I think
all comments and stuff I really need as I only have 3 pc's to try them on...

I got some of the stuff you want built today for slack current
these are slack pkg's, so you gotta install them with pkgtool running from persistent usb
all of them are for the slackware nflux version only
I tried the fresh mode bootup and hit "NO" when asked to configure X, but got the same results. Pretty colors that look like a navaho rug or something. Trying to use the standard <CTRL>-<DEL>-<BACKSPACE> to back out of X got me nowhere, alas, so I re-booted and tried the VESA-2 mode without configuring X....same results.
I'm going to burn this to usb stick with unetbootin and then open up the config files. I want to see if I can simply edit the display resolution and make some progress there. How much can it hurt? Yeah....famous last words, etc....I DID get this thing to play with....
Oddly enough, the bootup screen has the resolution perfectly. I wonder why X fails? Right now, I've booted into net-install mode, and exited into the command line (tc@box:~$) so I wonder what I can do from here....I've noticed that the normal Slackware 13.0 gives me the same video results on X on the desktop, but your nflux version works just fine on desktop. Of course, that machine won't boot off usb stix, either yet. I need to access the bios and see what I missed there. If I can get that to boot from usb I'll have some basis to add or change display resolutions, or at least experiment. Since I can't get slack to boot into x or anything else on this netbook I'll fiddle with the debian version in the meantime.
Just wondering right now....what happens if I boot this slackware version on the desktokp where it works, add the packages I want like you said, and REMASTERED the cd? And would I be able to add display resolutions to it that way as well? My how things have changed in my 15-year absence from slackware. I'm back to newbie status again. Oh well, I'm starting to ramble a bit with my thoughts. I'll get back to you later on these two (slack & deb).

axe25nut I have some more stuff for you to check out
First; I made a "xtras.lzm" containing /etc/inittab and /etc/rc.d/rc.local
this lzm will turn off the xconfig script and you will boot to runlevel 3 instead of 4
and you can try to configure X from there
Whats your video card?
and also, the debian version runs X ok?
try using a existing xorg.conf from one of your existing linux installs maybe?
boot to runlevel 3, copy existing xorg.conf from say sda2
mount /mnt/sda2
cp /mnt/sda2/etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/
Or boot to 3 and edit xorg.conf with nano or vi?
once you think x is configured
type in "startx"
or run gdm
and xtras.lzm for runlevel3 no X
EDIT: just uploaded a new xtras.lzm with a cool linux_logo
output and slax's "xconf" script to configure X http://multidistro.com/downloads/Apps/xtras.lzm
(Also please edit syslinux.cfg and make a entry for runlevel 3
by inserting this boot parameter on append line
autoexec=telinit~3
and for runlevel 4 with xconf script
autoexec=xconf;telinit~4
you have to also have the combo4axe.lzm loaded too as Qt4 is needed for bibletime.
so, if running off usb, put combo4axe.lzm, bibles4c.lzm, and xtras.lzm
in either nFlux_13qx/base or nFlux_13qx/modules folder and theyll load at boot
to remaster iso, extract it somewhere using isomaster or whatever
add modules to modules, base or optional folder
thers a script in /boot named "make_iso.sh"
invoke this to make new iso
./make_iso.sh
it will ask for name, make sure it ends in .iso, like myslax.iso
For booting off usb ignoring BIOS, use Plop bootmanager on iso/cd
it will boot usb regardless of bios
just choose plop from boot menu, choose usb, it should boot
no need for unetbootin either, just boot off cd, plug in usb, transfer iso contents
to usb in terminal or copy/paste in pcmanfm
then open terminal and install syslinux
syslinux /dev/sdxx
where xx is your usb, ie sdf1, sdb1, etc
tell me how it goes
(I included many sword modules in this bibletime
EDIT: working on the nflux-installer for hard drive
pic attached shows desktop installed to qemu-img via nflux-installer
added nFlux-Installer; a hard drive installer script sourced from
SlackMiniServer
NOTE: I have used the installer myself and it works good on 2 PC's+ a old lappy
remember; if you dont want lilo installed to MBR (default)
exit the installer when it comes time to install lilo, and open a terminal and enter
chroot /mnt/sdxx
so, chroot into wherever you installed to, like chroot /mnt/sda1
then edit /etc/lilo.conf, /boot/grub/menu.lst or whatever
and install lilo or grub to mbr or partition
then enter "exit" to get out of chroot and reboot
added combo grub1/grub2 pkg that hopefully works(best use GrubConfig from menu)!
added telnet, xpad, xvkbd, and task manager(lxde)
somehow made the iso a little smaller 596MB (2.9GB installed to hdd)
added a linux_logo greeter for runlevel3
added slackbook-2.0.html to /usr/doc viewable in firefox/lynx/links
added a couple help docs, see them here
I believe this version can compete with anyones current version livecd!!
it has many terminal apps like sbopkg, pkgtool, liloconfig, grubconfig, etc
that are in fbpanel menu
BUGS: only known bug is that if you try to use slackpkg to install apps
it boinks out saying not enough space on device!!??
However, Gslapt(which has same mirror as slackpkg) and sbopkg both work well...very odd

seems Current got alot of updates last night!
and a new kernel,etc
I am attempting to compile the new 2.6.33.4-smp kernel into a live kernel
patched with aufs & squashfs 3.4 (had to strip out squashfs 4.0 as LinuxLiveScripts
doesn't work with it without issues)
Hopefully it'll compile and be OK
so then I can release a new improved version of what is now rc3 above.
Anyone try the new slack version above yet as I have no idea about bugs,etc
and wonder how well it works on others PC's??
I hope I can get this kernel compile going
this is my first attemp at actually patching the kernel myself for aufs, squashfs 3.4, and sqlzma
its pretty hard it seems and keeps bonking out when it attempts to build squashfs
but I think I'm gonna cheat and try cp'ing the 2.6.33.3-qx2 fs/squashfs folder,etc
over to new one and tryin..
it boinks out saying sqlzma.this/that undefined...
oh wait, it may be working as its went past squashfs now....
