Aliases in x

How can I get my aliases to work in X? I tried putting my
aliases script in /etc/rc.d/init.d with permissions set to -rwxr-xr-x and a symbolic link to
it in /etc/rc.d/rc.5 but it doesn't work. Thanks.

doesn't look like this anythign at all to do with, does it? you just want a script to run on startup, right? well files in /etc/init.d are sysvinit service scripts, not just general bash scripts. if you wish to export global aliases you can add them to /etc/rc.local on fedora, or /etc/profile. the first will be executed once on boot, the second will be executed with each local bash instance (or other shell...) spawned.

Okay, I got my aliases working in x, here's the solution.

To make your aliases appear in gnome -- or possibly any x gui -- change the
term properties in gnome to make it a login shell by default. Open your
terminal and click on "Edit/Current Profile". Choose the tab "Title and
Commands". Under "Command" check the box "Run command as a login shell".

Credit for this goes to the Redhat archives. Here's the link:
