A teaser DSL problem

Hey all,

Having some internet problems, hopefully someone can help. I just recently switched ISP's from Cable highspeed to DSL highspeed, I'm using Mandrake 9. Anywhooo, everything set up fine on my windows partition, went to set up my mandy and I've been slaped in the face with this problem. I run the Mandrake Control Center/ internet conection wizard, set it to pppoe, I think I input everything (I think) correctly but when I try to connect not a thing happens.

I'm wondering if any of you pro's out there that use mandrake (or not) have any kooo tricks with setting up DSL on linux. I'm not really an experienced user, still in the getting to know each other stage.

So let me know, any help is always appreciated.

Thankx.

I am just reading up on getting DSL going myself.
What brand modem? Will it work with Linux?
What connection software? Enternet?
This may be a good place to check for info.

You'll also need to know the technology used for the DSL link, such as PPPoA (PPP over ATM) or PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet). Setting up PPPoA on my Slackware box at home wasn't that much fun, but that was partially due to the ATM modem I'm using.

cheers

Jamie...

Thanks for the questions guys, umm the modem is an Effecient Networks speedstream 5200. The connections is through ethernet and as far as I know, since this is what was set up from the disk that my ISP (Sympatico) gave me, is that the link is through pppoe, and this is what I've been trying.

Here's another bit of info, someone suggested I try the adsl-status command on the command line, I did this. Apparently the set up is seeing my IP, the Server DNS's but still can't connect to anything at all. I tried running through all the setups that roarinpenguin suggets but nothing at all. I'm at a complete loss.

I suppose it's possible the modem is not supported, I never actually thought that could be a problem and will look into that right away.

Thanx again, any help, is again, greatly greatly appreicated, I certainly don't want to lose my mandy

I'm not sure about all that extra configuration..

I'm using Speakeasy down here in Virginia, USA.. I have my DSL modem plugged in to a hub. I have a WAP and a linux machine also plugged into the same hub, each with their own IP address. The linux machine just uses ETH0 as it would on a local network.. except, it uses the IP address given to me by my DSL provider. If it were dynamic, I'd just have to set ETH0 to DHCP.

Hi all, Thanks to everyone who tried to help, looks like I found and resolved my problem, wanna know how ? I got rid of Mandy When in doubt, go to slackware. It's been awhile since I've wanted to try Slackware out, the set up when flawlessly, im currently working on the x86 set up but that's always a pain, and yes even my DSL connection went up without a hight.

I suppose in the end I never really found out what was wrong with Mandy, and I will miss mandrake but so far I have to say, I love slack, let's just hope it stays that way.

Thanks again everyone.

Anna.
