2.6.4 Kernel and sym53c8xx driver

I've been using RH 9 for a while and thought I'd try my first kernel update. It all went well until I tried the mkinitrd. I keep getting errors about not finding the sym53cxx module. If I capture the output of the "make modules_install" I see that it was created. In fact if I look in the /lib/modules/2.6.4-rbl/drivers/scsi directory I see a sym53cxx_2 directory containing the file sym53cxx.ko

So, how do I finish my new kernel. All help appreciated.

I did see another question for this driver and a different kernel but I didn't understand the answer given. Please be explicit in your suggestions.
