2.6.24 now has read-only bind mounts, how do I use it?!

I tried mounting as readonly, and I tried mounting via fstab with the "ro" option, but its still writeable! Here it is in mount:

$ mount | grep bind
/mnt/media/site/mp3 on /var/www/htdocs/mp3 type none (ro,bind)

"man mount": Note that the filesystem mount options will remain the same as those on the original mount point, and cannot be changed by passing the -o option along with --bind/--rbind.
