xbox contoller detected but does not make /dev/input/js0

All of the information regarding my problem can be found here: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p...6.html#3598396

Well I tried taking the new xbox linux xpad drivers from their cvs source and sticking it in my kernel, to see if it would work. Well, it compiled cleanly, and it recognizes the pad when it is inserted, but it doesn't create a joystick device for it. it goes into /dev/input/event3 and is not registered as a joystic device (KDE control center said "Not a joystic device," qjoypad didn't work with it and neither did StepMania). The old xpad drivers included with kernel 2.6.17 are crap and won't let me use a dance pad properly.

What should I do now?
