I'm trying to install WoW on linux using wine, but for some reason I can't see the "Installer.exe" file. I loaded the DVD on windows and I see the file so I know it's there. Does anyone know why I can't see the file?
After checking the permission of this file in windows, it's hidden and/or protected. I even tried to copy it from the DVD in windows and the operation was not allowed. What's going on here. Is there truly a way to hide a file in windows so you cannot see it in linux! Surely I hope not...
That doesn't work. This will show only linux hidden files, i.e. ".cshrc", ".wine", ".bashrc", etc.. The file in question is "Installer.exe". It appears to have a special hidden attribute associate with the windows file system: I can see the file clearly in "Win2k SP4" (a virtual machine, with linux hosting). I'm guessing that it might have to be mounting with special options.
It appears I'm the first person to have encountered this problem, so I'm wondering were to turn to next. Is this a bug in the linux kernel, is in the distribution, is it with the mount command... Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.
Actually, I had tested that procedure with a Windows system backup CD, and it did in fact show the hidden Win files. However, I don't have access to a WoW DVD, so I'm at a loss myself. Sorry my idea didn't work...
EDIT- Just another thought, have you tried installing by running Wine as root? You just may need special permission.
